5 ANIMALS THAT SAVED HUMAN LIVES

Over the years we have had several cases of animals that saved Human lives. Does it not feel so refreshing to know that most animals, even the ones designed to attack, kill and eat, actually have the brains to notice there is trouble and save human lives when needed? There is a truck load full of stories of animals that saved human lives. But let’s consider these heroic five.

●THE THREE LIONS
We would all agree that the lion is not the man’s friend and the last thing you should hear about a lion is that it saved human lives. Now imagine three of those creatures agreeing to save a live instead of having a good meal. It all happened in the rural south-west Ethiopia when a 12 year old girl was kidnapped by some men while returning from school. After harboring her for a week and according to the girl beating her, one day they were trying to move her since they were being pursued by the police. Unfortunately for them, amidst the whole pursuit, they stumbled upon three lions who chased the men away and surrounded the girl, staying with her until she was found by the police. Upon seeing the police, they left her and quietly went away. When the police picked her up, she was scared and shocked but still alive. Wildlife experts say that the lions may have let her go because her cries sounded like a meowing of a little lion cub. Others say the lions were about to eat her before being intercepted by the police. We’ll never know, all we know is they saved her life.

●THE PARROT
When Willie the parrot learnt a new stream of words, the word ‘baby’ was not amongst them. 19 year old Megan who was helping babysit a two year old child stepped out for a minute while the child watched television and ate, suddenly the parrot flew into the room and started screeching ‘Mama, baby!’ ‘Mama, baby!’ immediately getting Megan’s attention. Megan rushed back to the kid and found her blue from choking on her food. She quickly helped dislodge the food from her throat and immediately the parrot saw her attending to the kid, he stopped squealing. Who knows what would have happened if Megan had wasted just a little bit of time and of course, if our hero parrot wasn’t around to grab her attention.

●THE BELUGA WHALE
A 26 year old female diver once joined a contest in which participants plunged to the bottom of a 20 foot deep arctic pool to see who could submerge the longest. During the contest, when she was trying to come out of the water she suffered a crippling leg cramp due to the arctic temperatures causing her to be paralyzed. She began to choke and started drowning and thought she was going to die. Suddenly a hero stepped out in the form of a beluga whale. Noticing the diver’s predicament and using her dolphin like shaped nose, she encircled the diver’s leg in her mouth and started to push her to the top of the pool. The diver got to the surface and survived. This was how the Beluga whale joined our list of incredible animals that saved human lives.

 ●THE GORILLA
During a zoo exhibit, a 3 year old boy once ran ahead of his mum and in his over curious nature, climbed towards the gorilla pit, before anyone could notice he fell 18 feet onto the pit. They were 7 gorillas present there, but a 7 year old female gorilla called Binti quickly rushed to the child with a baby gorilla at her back. She picked up the child and turned around preventing the other gorillas from getting to him while cradling him in her arms. She then carefully placed the child near a door where the zookeepers could easily retrieve the child. The child was found and rushed to the hospital and his case was listed as critical due to the depth of his fall. But it may have been worse if Binti had not rushed to his rescue.

●THE DOG
Man’s best friend indeed. Dogs have been known for their dogged loyalty to their masters and families where they belong and Khan the dog was not left out of its own heroism. A toddler was outside in the yard playing with Khan whilst under the supervision of her mother’s eyes from the window. Suddenly, the toddler’s mum noticed that Khan began to get aggressive with the toddler, picking her up and throwing her behind him. When the mum rushed out to find out what was wrong, she realized that the dog had been trying to keep the child away from a King Brown Snake which attacked them in the yard. The snake ended up biting the dog before leaving, and the dog recovered fully after an anti-venom treatment. What would have happened if Khan hadn’t been present to stop the snake and it had bitten the girl instead?
